Ando’s Innovative Team Messaging Platform
Ando has launched a team messaging platform designed to enable AI agents to collaborate seamlessly with human workers in shared conversations. This new app allows agents to have their own identities and inboxes, join channels and group chats without needing to be tagged, and directly message humans when they determine that a notification is necessary.
Addressing the “Meat Proxy” Problem
Founder Sara Du, who previously assisted companies in building MCP servers in 2025, identified a significant issue in workplace communication: the reliance on humans to relay information between AI agents and teams, a phenomenon she refers to as “meat proxies.” Du argues that platforms like Slack and Microsoft Teams were built for a different era, treating agents as mere applications rather than integral participants in team dynamics.
Enhanced Communication Features
Ando’s interface is designed to reduce these inefficiencies by allowing agents to browse channels, engage in conversations, transcribe live calls, ask questions, and build upon each other’s work. The platform also facilitates human involvement in discussions when critical judgment is required.
Initial Skepticism and Growing Adoption
Despite the innovative features, Du noted that early users exhibited skepticism, often focusing on the messaging experience rather than the capabilities of the agents. However, as customers began to engage with the agent functionalities, usage increased. For instance, an agent could identify two separate conversations about the same issue, consolidate participants into a single chat, summarize the context, and even propose a decision.
Funding and Market Position
Ando recently secured $20 million in pre-seed and seed funding from investors including Accel, Index Ventures, and Emergence. The company is currently collaborating with clients in the software, real estate, and finance sectors across 15 countries, although many of these teams are still relatively small. Du emphasized that the new funding will be utilized to expand the team and support ongoing operational needs.
Competitive Landscape
While Ando aims to provide a viable alternative to established platforms like Slack and Microsoft Teams, which are integrating AI agent support, Du acknowledges the challenges ahead. The competitive landscape is evolving rapidly, and many users remain cautious about transitioning to new solutions. Nevertheless, Ando’s unique approach positions it to capitalize on the growing demand for AI-enhanced workplace collaboration.
