On Sep 09, 2026, Google introduced a set of football features for Search intended to provide real-time game coverage, expanded statistics, and fantasy integration. Denise Ho Senior Director, Product Management, Search said the updates are designed to surface play-by-play action, social commentary and AI-powered analysis directly in Search results.
Live Game Feed
The Live Game Feed displays an overall recap and a dynamic timeline with play-by-play updates, top social commentary, key video highlights and AI-powered insights. A red “Live” icon will appear when searching for an ongoing professional football game. The feature aims to let users follow each game in real time without leaving Search.
Expanded matchups, standings and stats
Search will show a new matchup carousel so users can check scores from other league games without separate searches. New stats will surface league leaders in categories such as passing touchdowns and rushing yards, and provide more detailed player metrics including sacks, fumbles and yards after catch (YAC). Google also plans to add championship favorites and playoff brackets in a later update.
Fantasy account linking via AI Mode
Users in the U.S. can link Yahoo Fantasy or Sleeper accounts to Search through AI Mode. After asking AI Mode for fantasy help, an option will appear to securely connect an account. Once connected, Search can access live roster and league context to offer start/sit recommendations, waiver wire targets, draft pick assessments and weekly recaps without requiring manual data entry.
The Live Game Feed for professional football is available on mobile in the U.S. in English. Support for collegiate teams and wider international availability is planned later this month. The matchup carousel and new stats will be available globally on mobile. The ability to connect Yahoo Fantasy and Sleeper accounts with Search via AI Mode is available in the U.S. in English.
