Accelerating IPO Processes
Cooley has launched GO Public, a proprietary product built on ChatGPT Work, designed to streamline the IPO preparation process while ensuring lawyer oversight. This innovative system analyzes client information, public sources, and curated precedents to create a tailored starting point for lawyers to review and validate.
How GO Public Functions
GO Public operates as an agentic system within a controlled workflow. Cooley’s legal engineers and practitioners have defined which tasks can be performed automatically by the system and where lawyer review is necessary. David Wang, Chief Innovation Officer, explains that the harness incorporates previously curated analyses, referred to as “baked-in know-how.” Traditionally, teams would begin IPO work from a precedent based on a comparable company, adapting it to fit the client’s needs. In contrast, GO Public starts with the client’s own materials, integrating them with relevant public records and selected precedents to generate a more customized baseline for attorney review.
Impact on Legal and Management Teams
In 2025, Cooley advised on 180 deals globally, totaling over $51.5 billion in deal volume, showcasing its extensive experience in the U.S. issuer-side IPO market. Dave Peinsipp, partner and co-chair of the global capital markets group, notes that GO Public allows lawyers and management teams to focus more on judgment, disclosure scrutiny, and strategic decisions by minimizing routine information-sorting tasks. Wang emphasizes that this tool enables a rethinking of how capital markets work is delivered while upholding professional duties and accountability.
Collaboration with OpenAI
The development of GO Public is a result of Cooley’s collaboration with OpenAI, which has significantly influenced the product’s capabilities. Peinsipp describes GO Public as the firm’s vision for the future of capital markets practice, highlighting that this partnership has opened up possibilities not only for IPOs but also for other capital markets transactions. This collaboration aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of legal work in capital markets, marking a transformative step in the industry.
