Deezer to add toggle to filter out AI-generated music

Deezer announced a new user control that will let listeners exclude AI-generated music from their streaming experience. The company said the toggle will prevent AI-created tracks, albums and related artists from appearing in search results when enabled.

What the toggle does

Deezer described the control as an opt-in setting: when switched on, users will no longer see AI-generated material in searches. The company framed the move as a response to customer demand and said it was triggered in part by a recent surge in AI music uploads.

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said the company had observed clear user demand for a way to remove AI-generated music and that the toggle gives listeners the option to focus on human creators if they wish. Deezer added AI-detection tooling last year and has reported upload statistics since then; at that time AI-generated tracks made up about 10% of daily uploads.

Industry context and figures

According to a survey Deezer cited from last year, roughly 45% of its customers wanted a method to filter out AI music. The company reported that by July more than half of daily uploads to the platform were AI-generated, averaging about 90,000 tracks per day.

Other streaming services have taken different approaches. Bandcamp has banned AI tracks, Tidal has cut off monetization for uploads identified as AI-generated, and Spotify has been tagging AI-created music and related artists. Variety reported in August that Apple Music was exploring labels for AI tracks by the end of the year. Independent tracking systems have also emerged to identify AI music outside platform tools.

Deezer said the toggle-based feature is under development and is expected to be available before the end of the year.
