On Aug 19, 2026 Google announced a set of new tools in Search intended to support study and review. The company framed the additions as features to help learners understand concepts, practice skills and organize materials using AI inside Search.
Interactive visuals and practice quizzes
Search can now generate interactive visuals and simulations to illustrate complex topics. Google said users can request a tailored visual in an AI Overview (for example, a pH scale) or go directly to AI Mode to describe a specialized tool.
Google also introduced customized practice quizzes for subjects ranging from science and math to languages and humanities. The company said the quizzes can be used to prep for standardized tests including ACT, AP, ENEM, GRE, JEE, LSAT, MCAT, NEET, and SAT. Google stated that test-related quizzes draw on content from partners The Princeton Review, Careers360, PhysicsWallah and Akira Enem, and that practice quizzes are available globally in English free of charge in both AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Lens, notebooks and study organization
The Lens camera in the Google app (Android and iOS) will offer an interactive learning mode that analyzes photos of problems, highlights potential mistakes and provides follow-up explanations, Google said. This Lens experience is scheduled to roll out globally in English over the coming weeks.
Google is bringing Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) functionality into AI Mode so users can create dedicated notebooks for classes or projects and combine slides, syllabi, web articles and prior AI Mode threads. The company said existing notebooks from Gemini Notebook or the Gemini app will sync automatically across Google products. Notebooks in AI Mode are rolling out over the coming days across more than 180 countries in English, with local language support to follow in the weeks ahead.
Custom file creation and rollout details
Search can now assemble study documents from uploaded files or AI Mode threads, producing one-pagers or other summaries from photos of handwritten notes, lecture slides and similar materials. Google said custom file creation has rolled out globally in English in AI Mode and will be added to AI Overviews soon. Supported input types at launch include documents, slide presentations, spreadsheets and text files.
Google published the announcement in a post by Awaneesh Verma, Distinguished Product Manager, Search. The company also noted that notebooks in AI Mode will be available in English in all countries supported by Gemini Notebook, excluding the European Economic Area (EEA).
