Google on Oct 07, 2026 unveiled Playground, an experimental, browser-based platform designed to let people create, play and share custom games using only text prompts. Google says the tool removes the need for coding by letting users describe characters, rules and environments through a conversational interface.
Create, edit and test by describing ideas
According to Google, Playground supports starting from a blank canvas, remixing starter prompts or following guided steps to shape a concept. Users can immediately test creations and iterate by requesting changes to physics, rules, characters or environments through simple text commands. Google notes the system is intended to keep creators in control from early concept to a playable product.
Play, share and community moderation
Playground is browser-based, so Google says games can be played on phones and laptops. Creations can remain private, be shared via a link, or be published to a community gallery. Select genres will support multiplayer gameplay and in-game leaderboards tied to a Play Games profile, where players can claim a handle, follow creators and rate games.
Google states that every published game will undergo safety screenings aligned with its Community Guidelines and will be subject to user reporting. The company says the gallery uses player ratings and activity to highlight new and popular games.
Google also described an upcoming integration with Unity Spark that, it says, will enable professional-level mechanics, high-fidelity 3D capabilities and the use of the Unity runtime. Unity Spark is in testing with a closed beta planned.
Google characterizes Playground as an early experiment and notes that generative AI remains experimental. Playground launches Oct 07, 2026 for users in the U.S. (18+) at playground.google, with tiered creation access rolling out based on Google One membership.
