Instinct Expands AI Agent to Group Chats
Instinct, valued at $10 billion following its latest funding round, has launched a group-chat feature for its AI agent. This new capability allows users to add the agent to group conversations, even if some participants do not have Instinct accounts. The feature aims to assist with shared tasks such as travel planning, ticket purchases, fantasy leagues, carpools, and organizing contributions for events like Thanksgiving.
How the Group Agent Works
With the group version of Instinct, early access users can integrate the AI agent into their chats. This functionality is designed to streamline the often frustrating back-and-forth that occurs during group planning. By enabling the agent and human participants to coordinate within a single conversation, Instinct seeks to enhance the planning experience.
Privacy and Permissions
Noah Shinn, founder of Instinct, provided insights into how privacy and security are managed in group chats. He explained that a user’s personal Instinct agent must request permission before connecting with the group’s Instinct agent. Users have the ability to designate which groups they trust and can revoke that trust at any time. Additionally, the group’s Instinct operates separately from users’ personal accounts and cannot access personal data without explicit consent.
Rollout and Availability
If new members join a group chat, any pending replies from a user’s personal agent are held until the user approves sharing them with the group. The group-chat feature is currently available to Instinct’s early access users and will be rolled out to a broader audience “soon.” Users interested in trying out the new feature can request their Instinct agent to add them to the access list.
