Anthropic to Rent $45 Billion of Nvidia’s Vera Rubin Compute from Nscale

Anthropic has reached an agreement to rent roughly $45 billion in AI compute capacity from British infrastructure firm Nscale, according to a person familiar with the matter. The compute will be provided on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chip system and is expected to begin powering Anthropic’s services in late 2027.

Deal structure and hardware

Sources say the arrangement spans six years and will draw computing power from Nscale’s flagship data center in West Virginia. The Vera Rubin system, which combines six different chips working in concert, has been described in coverage as a leading-edge chip architecture for large-scale model training and inference.

Nscale was founded in 2024 and has already made deals with other cloud and AI customers, according to reporting. Bloomberg first reported the new deal, and people familiar with the agreement provided additional details about timing and the data center location.

Part of a wider compute buildup

The Nscale agreement is one of several large compute commitments Anthropic has announced as it scales capacity. Earlier reports say Anthropic signed a $10 billion, six-year deal this month with AI cloud startup Volta, founded in January, to secure cloud computing from a data center in Norway. In July, Anthropic reportedly agreed a $5 billion compute-related deal with AMD.

Previous arrangements include a multi-data-center deal with SpaceX that is reported to supply about $1.25 billion of capacity per month, and expansions with major cloud providers: an April increase with Amazon adding access to an additional 5 gigawatts of compute, plus extended partnerships with Google and Broadcom.

Observers note that other large AI developers, including Google, OpenAI, and Meta, are also pursuing expanded compute capacity. The Nscale capacity is slated to start contributing to Anthropic’s services in late 2027, and the reported contract covers six years from the West Virginia facility.
